Born in Berlin in 1976, Rebecca Raue studied fine arts at the University of the Arts in Berlin with Georg Baselitz and Rebecca Horn. She has been exhibiting regularly at home and abroad since 2002. In 2003 she did her master class with Rebecca Horn.
With her new exhibit, “Daring to Connect” Rebecca envisioned and created her paintings in the gallery space itself. Surrounded by white from floor to ceiling and nothing but light, Rebecca, quite literally, finds herself in the inception of thought. Conceptualizing her process, colors are her starting point when she enters an artwork because its intuitive. With her conviction, her art is an approach to enter a deep level of what life means for her and use it as a vehicle to invite us to a conversation of what life really is and why we are here. As we journey within her perceived environment, ethereal or dark figurines emerge amongst the abstract symbols, following us as ancestral guardians or perhaps a darker piece of ourselves we wish to abandon but obviously cannot.
Rebecca Raue opens up the space for inner travel and challenges us to dig in our subconscious. In her pictures she uses ciphers to find an expression for the invisible world that essentially defines each of us. She is fascinated by individual lines, paths and spaces inside people and uses them to build landscapes that invite you to linger. By looking at the old in a new way, Rebecca opens up spaces for contemplation on the future.
